To celebrate their 10th year Angika present Cypher, performed by a company of 6 female Bharatanatyam dancers. Cypher explores the multi-layered relationship between Bharatanatyam, mathematics, geometry and the idea of codes or cyphers - languages with hidden meanings.

Angika are the UK’s most dynamic and imaginative British Indian dance company bringing a contemporary approach and vitality to the rich vocabulary of classical Bharata Natyam dance.

The company was founded in 1997 as a creative partnership between London based choreographers and Bharata Natyam dancers Mayuri Boonham and Subathra Subramaniam.

They are well known for their innovative dance and music collaborations and Angika’s productions, with their inimitable performance style, have won enthusiastic responses from critics and audiences alike.

Inspired by the martial arts dance form of Chhau, the emotive vocabulary, medative stillness and sophisticated and dynamic rhythms of Odissi, the dancers weave stories which engage the audience at all levels.

Using a rich mix of new music, new media and contemporary dance the company also taps into the deep wellspring of South Asian dance technique Bharata Natyamhis is power and grace up-close and intimate. Zoom in and revel in the detail, sweaty and sensual, as bodies and cultures collide.

See the bite-sized best bits from twenty years of Shobana Jeyasingh choreography, a creative force that has shaped so much of UK dance today. But it’s not cut and paste. These fierce solos, intricate duets and passionate trios have a story to tell. It’s a human story about meetings and partings, love and longing - and hatred as persistent as the monsoon rain.

This is dance on the inside. Film combines with live performance to show us the dancers’ take on the work. Discover what they bring to the pieces and how in turn Jeyasingh unique style has shaped their own creative lives.

Curiosity meets one-upmanship in Flhip Flhop “Everything happens on the break”, as two friends investigate their surroundings, competing to entertain each other in an attempt to forget about the monotony of everyday life. The elements of Hip Hop are hidden and twisted into a dynamic physical performance using found objects and intricate choreography to create an energetic and spontaneous comedy.
